The Wellness Research Center (WRC) is a work-site wellness program for faculty and staff. Housed in the Education Building, this state of the art fitness center offers strength, flexibility and aerobic conditioning equipment as well as fitness services. The WRC provides individualized fitness instruction, fitness assessments, and special programs that focusing on various health-related issues. Goals of this program include:
Physical fitness is an important factor for health and well being, particularly in our modern, mechanized world. It helps decrease the risks for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer, osteoporosis, and musculoskeletal injury. Developing an effective physical fitness program today will help you remain active throughout your lifetime. The Wellness Research Center at the University of Central Florida is dedicated to enhancing the overall physical fitness of our faculty and staff.
Conducting research that involves exercise is an important mission of the Wellness Research Center. The Wellness Research Center is used in conjunction with the Exercise Physiology Laboratory to study the effects of exercise on health and aging. Educational experiences exist for students majoring in various university programs including those students studying under the Department of Child, Family, and Community Sciences. Graduate assistantships and internships are available each semester. Students receive academic credit for educational activities conducted by the Education Department and specifically related to Wellness Research Center programs.
