University of Central Florida
Community Nursing Center at Apopka
(CNCA)

The University of Central Florida School of Nursing established a nursing center in Apopka in the Fall of 1998. The center is based at the John Bridges Community Center and there is a branch location at Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. Undergraduate nursing students and their instructor, Dr. Diane Wink, an experienced registered nurse and Associate Professor of Nursing at UCF, staff the center. Students work at the CNCA, in addition to working in clinics and hospitals, throughout the junior and senior years of their nursing education. Registered nurses earning their baccalaureate degree and graduate students in our Family Nurse Practitioner program also have rotations at the CNCA.

CNCA

Through the CNCA, students provide services such as hypertension and diabetes screening, monitoring and education, vision screening, and health education. They also work with partners in the South Apopka community, using the CNCA as a base of operations.

This CNCA is one of nine nursing centers established by the UCF School of Nursing. It is part of a new curriculum which focuses on helping nurses become knowledgeable about working in the community setting as well as the hospital. This nursing center is supported by a grant from the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation.
