What assignment/s have you worked on at the UWC?
Dissertation Proposal and Dissertation
What were your expectations of Writing Center services? How did your expectations compare to your experiences?
My expectation was to get help! My writing consultant has pointed out a lot of details that I missed in my own proofreading. Also my writing consultant has exceeded my expectations in that they are familiar with my area of research and have helped me with readability.
How has the UWC been useful to you?

Improved readability. Working with the same consultant who has knowledge about gender studies. Most importantly the consultant has pointed out confusing statements on sections and we would discuss what I really meant.

Has the UWC made you a better writer? If yes, how?
Yes. Helped me to recognize my writing deficiencies so that as I continue to write, I see mistakes as I make them.
Considering the higher expectations of graduate writing, how has the UWC helped you become a better writer?
Handouts on proofreading and use of passive voice, links on web site to dissertation/thesis writing resources, expertise of graduate writing consultant
Do you have any advice for future UWC visitors? How would you suggest that they use the UWC to their best advantage?
Bring two copies of paper -- one for consultant and one for writer to mark comments on. Also come to the Writing Center sooner. Do not wait until the end of the semester or paper due date.
