What assignment/s have you worked on at the UWC?
Honors in the Major Thesis
What were your expectations of Writing Center services? How did your expectations compare to your experiences?
I expected to receive ideas to enhance and focus on the topic of my thesis. (I tend to think everything is interesting and it is, but not necessarily all in the same paper.) What I received was much more. Amber (my consultant) was able to listen as I explained what I was attempting to accomplish in my paper and she filled in the blanks and completely understood how to guide me. After a couple of these planning sessions, Amber began to read my paper and she gave me additional suggestions that I would not have been able to identify on my own. I know that my thesis is more concise and easier to read and understand because of Amber's professional assistance.
How has the UWC been useful to you?

The one-hour sessions with the same writing consultant is a great idea because it obviously saved us the time of explanations and introductions each appointment time.

UWC has relieved me of the pressure I was feeling to complete this project by myself. UWC offered me the opportunity to share my concerns and direct questions to someone that could answer my questions or guide me to someone who could.

The on-line appointment calendar is also a time-saving innovation that I appreciate.

Has the UWC made you a better writer? If yes, how?
Yes, I am a more confident and focused writer as the result of my experience.
Do you approach writing projects differently because of your UWC experiences? If yes, how?
Yes, I am motivated to begin a project now instead of experiencing the fear of having to write another paper; I would procrastinate out of fear of failing.
Do you have any advice for future UWC visitors? How would you suggest that they use the UWC to their best advantage?
Students should not hesitate to get on their computer and make an appointment or stop by UWC. UWC's hours of operation will accommodate anybody's schedule. I think students who do not visit the UWC are doing themselves a great disservice because the UWC is an invaluable benefit to UCF students and staff.
For grad students: Considering the higher expectations of graduate writing, how has the UWC helped you become a better writer?
I am a better writer because I do not feel isolated in doing my writing. The UWC offers me the opportunity to have a trained writing consultant listen to my ideas and concerns. After hours of writing on my thesis I began to feel as though I could not do it on my own any longer; I felt I needed someone's help. My academic advisor was very helpful, but the additional time that I spent at the UWC was just what I needed to regain the excitement I needed to complete my thesis.
