What is FEA?
I couldn't think of anything better to write than
the president of the FEA, Maureen Dinnen. So here is her message about
FEA: "As president of this great Association, I am proud of the contributions
made by our 122,000 FEA members who work in Florida's public schools,
colleges and universities. Nine out of every ten Americans are products
of our public schools. That means 90 percent of our techies, teachers,
entrepreneurs, entertainers, diplomats, doctors, aeronautical engineers
and auto workers. On a daily basis, we work with Florida's public school
children and college students in their pursuit of a quality education.
We are your teachers, bus drivers, faculty
members, school secretaries, custodians, cafeteria workers educational
aides, librarians, painters, media technicians and bus mechanics. As educators
we know what it takes to make our schools productive and educationally
sound. We have the research. We know the issues. We know how to get results.
We want safe and clean schools, equipped with the latest teaching materials
and technology. It will take good teachers, dedicated support staff, reasonable
class sizes and a solid curricula. And we must make sure all our public
schools must be on a sound financial footing. But, those results depend
on parents, teachers, support staff, administrators, school boards,
politicians, and students working in unison toward the focused goal of
helping kids learn. We invite you to help your local public schools, colleges,
universities, and students in any way you
can. We need volunteers to help mentor or tutor or just to take time to
read to a child.
The members of the Florida Education Association
are committed to making Florida's schools the best in the nation."

What is NEA?
With over 2.5 million members, the National Education Association
(NEA) is America's oldest and largest professional organization.
NEA is a volunteer based organization that provides many and varied services
and professional support to teachers and school support staff. NEA affiliates
regularly lobby legislators for resources that school needs and work to
protect academic freedom, among many other things. Its mission has
remained the same since its founding in 1857: to improve the quality
of public education and the professional status of those who dedicate their
lives to it.
