Law Enforcement Officer

The University of Central Florida is a full service
law enforcement agency serving the third largest University in the
United States. The Department serves a population of approximately
56,000 Students, Faculty and Staff with a night time population of
approximately 10,000 full time residents.
Purpose of position: To provide law enforcement
services and police duties associated with the protection, safety
and welfare of faculty, students, staff and visitors to the University
of Central Florida.
Essential functions: proactively patrol the University
to prevent crime, maintain the peace, suppress disturbances, and
investigate criminal and unusual activities. Detain and arrest criminal
offenders where appropriate and authorized by law. Exercise independent
and discretionary judgment within the parameters established by law
and department policy. Proficient
with all equipment utilized in the performance of assigned duties, to include
but not limited to, firearms, restraints, less lethal force weapons, vehicles,
communication equipment, computers, investigative and surveillance equipment.
Other related functions as assigned.
Working conditions: all equipment including uniforms,
duty weapon, taser and other required equipment are provided. Officers are able to participate in the "Ready Car Program" (take home car) after 12 month probation at the discretion of the Chief of Police. Overtime
(paid) is sometimes mandatory and may require working for extended hours (during
special events, etc.) Successful candidate must be able to work
all shifts, weekends and holidays. Successful candidate must have the
physical and mental capabilities to properly perform duties and responsibilities
of a police officer. Required qualifications: High school diploma or
GED, law enforcement certification in Florida, be able to pass oral, written, & physical
testing and pass an extensive background investigation. Possess valid
Florida Driver’s Driver's License.
Preferred qualifications: Law Enforcement experience
working in a higher education or equivalent environment. Bilingual.
Benefits: $35,000.00 yearly. Educational Benefit,
tuition waiver for six semester hours per semester. Florida State Retirement
System (special risk, 3% per year), vested in six years. Nine paid holidays
and one personal paid holiday. Paid vacation starting at 13 days per
year, Sick leave 8 hours/month. Health Insurance Package including prescription
drug coverage.
