Program Summary

Algebra educators will learn and share ideas on the effective use of technology in the Algebra classroom. Hands-on technology includes digital cameras, spreadsheets, graphing calculators, computer link, data collectors with motion, light, and temperature probes. Topics will focus on Algebra with some Science.

Clemson experts have written the curriculum around the NCTM Standards and have indexed it to major Algebra textbooks.

Description and Motivation:

The NCTM calls for reforms in the Algebra classroom, especially in the area of technology incorporation. Currently, available training is not aligned with major textbook curriculums, does not provide real world motivation, and there is little follow through after the workshop.
During the 5 full day Clemson Algebra Project Workshops, teachers will be trained using "standards based" real world lessons. Teachers will then use the black line master lessons in their Algebra classes with students.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Real world Algebra curriculum lessons provide a context to moticvate students
  • Activities are ready-to-use lesson plans for immediate classroom implementation
  • Technology intensive lessons will be provided for Algebra units throughout the school year.
