SITE-C teams: Lesson 6

 

Understanding stepwise continuous functions can be fun when using the CASIO CFX-9850G. Draw the figure given below by using a stepwise continuous function. Reference points are given.

One solution to this problem is given below.

Turn on the CASIO CFX-9850G by pressing AC/ON.

Use the cursor arrows to highlight the GRAPH menu and press EXE or just press 5 when at the main menu screen.

Enter into the Y1 slot the expression ( X2 - 4 ) and press EXE to store it in memory.

Enter into the Y2 slot the expression ( 3 2) X + 3 [ -2, 0 ] and press EXE to store it in memory.

Enter into the Y3 slot the expression - ( 3 2) X + 3 [ 0, 2 ] and press EXE to store it in memory.

Press SHIFT MENU (SETUP), use the down cursor arrow to highlight the Axes line, press F2 (Off).

Press SHIFT F3 (V-Window) to enter the viewing window screen, press F1 (INIT), and set the y-parameters as follows:

Ymin = -1.9

Ymax = 4.3

Yscale = 1

Press EXIT to return to the function list, and press F6 (DRAW) to see the picture.

To save this picture press OPTN F1 (PICT) F1 (STO) F1 (Pic1).

Press EXIT MENU 1 to access the Run menu. Press SHIFT F4 (Sketch) F1 (Cls) EXE to clear the screen.

Press OPTN F6 ( |> ) F6 ( |> ) F2 (PICT) F2 (Rcl) 1 to see the stored picture.

Press AC/ON to clear the picture.

Press EXIT MENU.

Turn off the CASIO CFX-9850G by pressing SHIFT AC/ON (OFF)
