SITE-C teams: Lesson 4

Understanding equations of lines, slopes, parallel and perpendicular lines can be fun when using the CASIO CFX-9850G. Draw the silhouette of the B-2 Bomber Stealth given below on the initial viewing screen of the calculator.

One solution to this problem is given below.

Turn on the CASIO CFX-9850G by pressing AC/ON.

Use the cursor arrows to highlight the GRAPH menu and press EXE or just press 5 when at the main menu screen.

Enter into the Y1 slot the expression 0.5 X + 3, [ -6, 0 ] and press EXE to store it in memory.

Enter into the Y2 slot the expression -0.5 X + 3, [ 0, 6 ] and press EXE to store it in memory.

Enter into the Y3 slot the expression -2 X - 12, [ -6, -5.5 ] and press EXE.

Enter into the Y4 slot the expression 2 X - 12, [ 5.5, 6 ] and press EXE.

Enter into the Y5 slot the expression 0.5 X + 1.5, [ -5.5, -4 ] and press EXE.

Enter into the Y6 slot the expression -0.5 X + 1.5, [ 4, 5.5 ] and press EXE.

Enter into the Y7 slot the expression Abs ( X + 3 ) - 1.5, [ -4, -1.5 ] and press EXE.

Enter into the Y8 slot the expression Abs ( X - 3 ) - 1.5, [ 1.5, 4 ] and press EXE.

Enter into the Y9 slot the expression - ( 2 ¸ 3 ) X - 1, [ -1.5, 0 ] and press EXE.

Enter into the Y10 slot the expression ( 2 ¸ 3 ) X - 1, [ 0, 1.5 ] and press EXE.

Press SHIFT MENU (SETUP), use the down cursor arrow to highlight the Axes line, press F2 (Off).

Press SHIFT F3 (V-Window) to enter the viewing window screen, and press F1 (INIT) to select the initial viewing window. Press EXIT to return to the function list, and press F6 (DRAW) to see the picture.

Press EXIT. Press MENU.

Turn off the CASIO CFX-9850G by pressing SHIFT AC/ON (OFF)
