Objective 1: Para-To-Teacher Tuition Support Program (Part D) - Annual Objective: By October 31, 2008, the SPDG/PDP-UCF will have identified the target number of 20 ESE paraprofessionals acquiring college course work for ESE teaching degrees. The target population is full time ESE paraprofessionals working in area school districts, preparing to transfer or have already transferred from the Community College to the University of Central Florida.

  • Activity 1a: Provide tuition support for upper division classes to acquire BS in exceptional student education. (Spring/summer/fall '08)

  • Activity 1b: Schedule coursework using alternative delivery (course compacting, web-based, media enhanced)

  • Activity 1c: Continue with liaison support for participants on issues of registration, enrollments and audits (spring/summer/fall '08)

  • Activity 1d: Provide stipend of up to $600 annually for expenses such as textbooks, test fees, software required to complete coursework, etc. (fall '08)

Objective 2: Highly Qualified Teachers Initiative (Part B) - By October 31, 2008, the SPDG/PDP-UCF will provide tuition support for 20 individuals/ESE teachers enrolled in graduate level classes to acquire the Severe/Profound (S/P) endorsement, thus meeting requirements of highly qualified teachers. This endorsement program consists of four graduate level courses.

  • Activity 2a: Advertise across service area for individuals meeting criteria for enrollment beginning 10/15/07
  • Activity 2b: Assist with application process for non-degree seeking students 11/01-12/30/07.
  • Activity 2c: Enroll and monitor individuals in required coursework. Proposed schedule of classes: 1 class in spring 2008, 2 classes in summer, 2008 and 1 classes in fall, 2008.
  • Activity 2d: Plan and implement alternative strategies for supervision of field experience including use of web-cams, video tapes, web-conferencing, on-site mentoring and/or video-streaming.

Objective 3: Highly Qualified Teacher Initiative/Recruitment (Part D) - BBy October 31, 2008 the SPDG/PDP-UCF working collaboratively with the College of Health and Public Affairs/Communication Sciences and Disorders Department and The Central Florida Speech and Language Consortium (area school district Speech and Language Program Coordinators), will have identified 15 communications disorders majors needing an internship experience in preparation for working in the public school system after graduation. The internship consists of 12 credit hours of supervision of actual delivery of services in the public schools. A course Working in School will be taken in conjunction with the internship to provide further support for the internship in public school settings.

  • Activity 3a: With assistance from the College of Health and Public Affairs/Communication Sciences and Disorders Department and area Speech and Language Program Coordinators identify participants from the central Florida region interested in participating in an SLP Internship within the public schools during fall '08 (spring '08).
  • Activity 3b: Communicate with Internship participants regarding Service Agreement (spring '08/fall '08)
  • Activity 3c: Communication Sciences and Disorders Field Experience staff identify settings for public school Internships (spring /summer '08)
  • Activity 3d: Communication Sciences and Disorders faculties with members of the Central Florida Speech and Language Consortium refine the content of the Working in Schools course to be taught fall '08 for individuals participating in the public school internship. (spring/summer '08)
  • Activity 3e: Provide tuition support for cohort participants enrolled in internship by the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department. (fall '08)
  • Activity 3f: Monitor progress and collect evaluation data (fall '08)

Objective 4: Family as Faculty (Part D) - By October 31, 2008, the SPDG/PDP-UCF in will increase the number of presentations provided by Family as Faculty participants to 20.

  • Activity 4a: Continued recruitment and training
  • Activity 4b: Advertise this product through websites and brochures
  • Activity 4c: Continue to implement a consistent procedure for request and delivery of presentations
  • Activity 4d: Compile evaluation results from presentations to be reported to BEESS

Objective 5: Recruitment, Dissemination and Awareness (Part D) - By October 31, 2008, the SPDG/PDP-UCF will assist with the recruitment of potential personnel; disseminate information about and for teachers in exceptional education; and develop an awareness of the career opportunities in exceptional education.

  • Activity 5a: Continue the development and dissemination of print recruitment materials
  • Activity 5b: Post materials on web-site
  • Activity 5c: Update You Can Make a Difference Publication and disseminate to Community Colleges in region.
  • Activity 5d: Continue quarterly development and dissemination of the Central Florida Personnel Development Partnership Update
  • Activity 5e Disseminate pertinent information from weekly BEESS update to UCF and other university faculties as is appropriate.
