Our Customer
A physician would have to prescribe our therapy and the patient has to
qualify and accept it. Both are our customers since the doctor has to
recommend the procedure and help carry it out, while the patient
accepts and pays for it. At the same time, the doctor is our
distributor to the end-user.
The end-users of our product is an elder population who are
early adaptors, preferring invasive procedures that aim to cure over
conventional drugs that require administration for symptoms over a
life-time. Our target market is much like the patients who elect for
Medtronic's deep brain stimulation. Subsequently, this will serve as a
guide in making our own projections.
Deep brain stimulation is a process in which a physician inserts
a magnet into a patient's skull to shut down regional brain function
for movement disorders. Our technology and this surgery are completely
different, but have many similarities. Rather than focusing on
movement disorders, we are looking more at neurodegenerative diseases
(brain cells dying rather than not functioning properly). In some
movement disorders, parts of the brain are over active, so shutting
them down temporarily is affective at treating the tremors. Our
technology is invasive (less invasive, but still requiring minor
surgery) so there
are parallels to the patient characteristics. The benefit for us is
that Medtronic's product is already on the market so we are able to
estimate our market needs based on their experience.
Customer Benefits
The main benefit that arises from our technology is that doctors are
able to offer patients a cure to there problem rather than a
treatment. Being able to offer patients a solution to their illness
can be more profitable than any other treatments offered. Being that
patients are the end-consumer of our product, they will ultimately
benefit by being cured of their disease.
