EXTRA CREDIT

MUL 2720 : Music of the World
Warfield (SPRING 2009)

RATIONALE

To encourage and reward extra (and exceptional) work in MUL 2720, you may earn up to a maximum of 5 "Extra Credit Points," which will be added to your final course grade.

This offer of extra points is made primarily to encourage your attendance at one of the concerts by Kodo, the Japanese Drumming Ensemble that will tour through Florida in mid-March.

For student who are unable to attend any of the Kodo concerts, an alternative method for earning Extra Credit Points will be established (see below).

ATTENDING THE KODO CONCERTS

Kodo will tour through Florida during the second and third weeks of March 2009, including stops in Gainesville, Clearwater, Melbourne, West Palm Beach, and Miami. Follow link on the MUL 2720 home page to the "Kodo" website for specific information. Look for the "One Earth Tour 2009" and follow the links to the information that you need.

Please note that it is your obligation to acquire tickets to any of these concerts. Do inquire about student discounts, "rush" tickets etc., but in all cases, it is your responsibility to get tickets in advance of the performance.

EARNING EXTRA CREDIT FOR ATTENDING A KODO CONCERT

Extra Credit for attending a Kodo concert will be in the form of one or more points--to a maximum of five--added to your final course average.

Points will be awarded in the following manner:

In short, you may earn points as follows:

Kodo Reports (and tickets) may be submitted to me until Friday, 27 March 2009 at 5:00 pm. No reports or tickets will be accepted for extra credit after that date.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR EARNING EXTRA CREDIT IN MUL 2720

For anyone who is unable to attend a Kodo concert, you may propose to me an extra-credit project comparable in terms of the work and credit earned for the Kodo Concerts.

Projects may include the following:

Finally, the awarding of extra credit is at my discretion. If your work is deemed inadequate or does not meet the agreed terms, you may receive less than the maximum agreed values, down to "0," for inferior work.
