  4. Looking toward the end of the course, begin reading Chapters 31-37 for the last few classes.

  1. The Midterm Test # 1 will be held this coming FRIDAY, 17 OCTOBER 2008, during your normal class time. Be prepared w/ scantrons, pencils, etc., as in your previous testing situations.
  2. Review sheets for Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Music have now been posted on the course web site.
  3. All PowerPoint Slides from classes related to the upcoming test are now on the course web site. To avoid confusion, no additional PowerPoints will be posted until after the test.
  4. Reminder: any music example covered in class that is in your 2-CD set AND THE INTRO CD (only one such item) may be used for Listening on Friday's test. Study those pieces and know their sounds.
  5. We will move forward on Wednesday, with Chapter 15 and beyond ("Classical era"), but those materials will not be on Friday's test.

  3. Begin reading in Chapter 8 for Wednesday's class, but realize that no materals from that chapter will be on the terminology quiz.
  4. All PowerPoint slides from earlier class meetings are available on the course web site. Please note that no recent slides (unrelated to the upcoming quiz) will be posted until after Friday's quiz to avoid confusion.

  1. Reminder: You must be registered for this course (and any others) by 5:00 pm TODAY (Friday). There is no way to add this course after that time, so take care of any scheduling issues IMMEDIATELY.
  2. Reminder: There is no class on Monday, due to the Labor Day Holiday.
  3. Warning: There are two hurricanes currently active in the Caribbean, and both may be heading in this general direction. Do check the local media over the weekend so that you will be aware if eitehr storm threatens Central Florida. You may also check the National Hurricane Center web site (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/) for information on these storms. Finally, if either threatens this region, check the UCF home page for possible closings of the University.
  4. For next Wednesday (after Labor Day), continue reading Chapters 5, 2 & 3, in that order.
  5. Become familiar with the publisher's web site that supports the textbook. In particular, look for and download the "Active Listening Tools" (look at the menu to the left on the publisher's web page). These software items will help you to learn the required pieces for this course.

  2. Also, for those who have not yet done so, purchase or acquire the course textbook and other materials.
  3. Become familiar with the publisher's web site that supports the textbook. In particular, look for and download the "Active Listening Tools" (look at the menu to the left on the publisher's web page). These software items will help you to learn the required pieces for this course.
  4. For next Friday, begin reading Chapters 5, 2 & 3, in that order. If you are ambitious, look at the course schedule and start reading ahead.
  5. Reminder: PowerPoint Slides used in class will be posted to the course web site shortly after the day that they are used. See the course web site if you need to download a free reader for PowerPoint.

  1. Look at the entire MUL 2010 course web site. Check out some of the links, remembering that many of my review pages are not yet established (i.e., some links wil be dead). Most external web links should work, however.
  2. Read through the Course Syllabus. Be certain that you understand all aspects of the syllabus, as the syllabus constitutes a type of contract between you and me.
  3. Look especially at the publisher-maintained web site for Wright Companion Site (follow the first link under "Useful Web Sites for MUL 2010"). Be certain that you understand how the site is organized and where to find specific resources.
  4. Purchase / Acquire course textbook and other materials (2-CD set). "Bundled" sets, which may include a free study guide, are available in the UCF bookstore, but you are free to buy or borrow your books from other sources, if you prefer.
  5. Read at least Chapter 1 for Wednesday, and if you are ambitious, also work on Chapters 2 & 3.
  6. Make sure that your email address, as listed on eCommunity, is correct, because that is the email account to which I will send MUL 2010 messages. Use the link on the course home web page to access eCommunity and your account. If you do not have an active email account, contact the User Services Help Desk (Computer Center 1, Rm 109; phone [407] 823-5117) for help in establishing the UCF account that you already have.
  7. REMINDER: We will have a brief diagnostic quiz on Wednesday. No studying required (or expected), but simply taking this brief quiz will earn you some extra-credit points. Please bring at least one SCANTRON form to class. Because this is not an official part of the course, there will be no opportunity (or need) for make-up quizzes.
