                    A NOTE ABOUT THE TEST ON 10/16:
        Quiz questions were answered in class.  None will be posted.  There will be no questions on Spinoza, Epicurus or Epictetus on the test.  There will be no questions on Aristotle's concept of Friendship, but there will be questions on Aristotle's ethical theory as it relates to Confucianism.
Here are some things you ought to know about the extra principles, concepts and theories added in class.
A.  What does William James say about our "will to believe"?  What is a live, momentous, forced option?  What is a genuine option?  What is an "hypothesis"?
B.  What concepts in Plato's Republic are very roughly related to the notion of a caste system in Hinduism?
C.  What are Plato's arguments for the immortality of the soul?  Which of them is related to the notion of reincarnation in Hinduism?
D.  Be able to compare the ethical system of Aristotle with the ethical system of Confucius especially with respect to the Doctrine of the Mean and the notion of the importance of community in creating good character.
E.  What are Euthyphro's primary definitions of 'piety'?  What does Socrates say is wrong with each of them?
    THE MID-TERM EXAM WILL HAVE 50-65 QUESTIONS, ALL OF WHICH ARE MULTIPLE CHOICE.
    REMEMBER, TOO, THAT YOU NEED THE HALF-SIZED, 100 QUESTION CAPACITY, PINK SCANTRON FOR THE TEST.
