Team
Member and Self-Evaluation
Adapted, and altered
substantially, from Ruth Federman and Sandra Hurd, Using Student Teams in The Classroom:
A Faculty Guide.
INSTRUCTIONS: SEND THIS COMPLETED FORM AS AN ATTACHMENT IN
THE APPROPRIATE ASSIGNMENTS LINK IN WEBCT AND
BRING A HARD COPY TO CLASS WITH YOU ON THE DAY ON WHICH THE FINAL PAPER/PROJECT
IS DUE.
In
the table below, list the names of your group’s members, including yourself
first, and in the appropriate space, write (type) the number that best
describes each group member’s contribution to, and participation in, the
group. You should also comment briefly
on each group member’s contribution and participation (including your
own). You may use + and – if you wish.
10 – FULL
PARTICIPATION: made significant content and
process contributions throughout the duration of the project and was committed
to making it successful by submitting assignments to the group on time, and
commenting on and providing work on which others can make comments and
corrections, for the final group paper/project.
8-9 - STRONG SELECTIVE
PARTICIPATION: made a significant contribution to the
project, but limited participation mainly to a particularly narrow scope –
i.e., his or her own contribution was done, but did not fully participate in
assisting with or commenting on others’ written contributions.
6-7 – SELECTIVE
PARTICIPATION: made a contribution, but a very narrow
one. His or her own work was of good
quality, but of minimal quantity.
Participated minimally in assisting with or commenting on others’
written contributions.
4-5 – WEAK
PARTICIPATION: attended some meetings OR
contributed minimally to online discussions, but made little substantive
contribution to the project. Showed
little initiative and contributed to the group only minimally.
2-3 – VIRTUALLY ABSENT: frequently missed meetings
or did not respond to e-mails or discussions, was often unprepared or
contributed substandard work that had to be corrected or completed by
others. This person exhibited little
effort and made minimal contributions to the project.
0-1 – TOTALLY ABSENT: completely absent from the
project and the research paper in no way reflects a contribution on his or her
part.

SCALE: Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 (10 is
best) with respect to the following:
_____1. My research habits are good – i.e., I used some quality primary and secondary sources and took care to explain and justify my positions fully.
_____2. I read contributions, questions and comments
from other group members on their own and my writing and research.
_____3. I started on my section of the paper at least
one month prior to the due date.
_____4. I made sure that other members of the group
knew the focus of my part of the paper.
_____5. I used websites as sources of information.
_____6. I actually went to the Library or used
electronic academic journals through the Library, or both, in my research.
_____7. I thought about the impact that my
participation in the group would have on other group members’ research.
_____8. I thought about the impact that the quality
of my research would have on the quality of the final paper/project.
_____9. I used MLA format in my paper.
_____10.
I found my assessment of others’ papers helpful to me in my own research and writing.
Use the same scale as above
_____1. I like participation in group research projects.
_____2. I am willing to participate in group
research projects.
_____3. The written instructions for the group
research paper were clear (provided in syllabus).
_____4. The oral instructions given in class
regarding the group research paper were clear.
_____5. I was assigned the part of the paper that I
requested (interpretive or critical).
_____6. I am primarily suspicious of group projects
– i.e., I think it is likely that many group members will be unreliable and
I’ll have to do all the work.
_____7. This research group project was one in which
I did most of the group’s work.
_____8. This research group project was one in which
other people in the group did most of the work that I should have been doing or
to which I should have been contributing.
_____9. I learned something new in doing research
for the group paper on my own.
_____10.
I learned something from reading and commenting on others’ sections of the
research paper.
_____11.
I learned something from having others read and comment on my section of the
paper.
_____12.
I would be willing to engage in a research project like this one again.
_____13.
I attended class regularly and knew the members of my group.
_____14.
I am comfortable using WebCT.
_____15.
I know how to use WebCT.
_____16.
I found the discussion area of WebCT useful for the group research.
_____17.
I think that grading for the research project should focus primarily on the
individual’s work, not on the group’s work.
_____18.
I thought that the research component of this course was appropriate for this
course at this level.
