To apply for a paid or academic credit internship, send a letter indicating your area of interest and expertise, a resume and 7-10 work samples. If you have a permanent as well as a college address, please provide both. Reporting clips, photographs, graphics and illustrations should be mounted or photocopied on 8 1/2 by 11-inch paper. Photos and artwork may be submitted on slides or CDs. Original work may be returned upon request if it is accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Preference is given to those who have experience in journalism. Applicants should have worked for their college publication or have had a previous internship.

Interns will draw a variety of assignments. Meetings will be held with various editors to discuss problems and progress. Every effort will be made to match summer work assignments with the interests of the interns selected to work on the staff of the Times-Union. Preference will be given to individuals who have held summer internships with daily newspapers in the past and individuals proven interested in a career in print journalism.
Applications must be made in writing and should include the applicants grade point average, previous journalism experience, and at least two references, one from within the academic community. Clips of past work should be included with application. It is not necessary for applicants to be majoring in journalism, but that is desirable. Interns must have their own vehicles. From their Web site:The Palm Beach Post has two 12-week reporting internships (1 metro, 1 business) and one Library internship in the summer of 2006, and three 16-week internships in the fall: two for photography, one for sportswriting.
We pay $475/week during our internships, but that does not include room, board or transportation. We are always happy to work with interns trying to find a place to live in the area. We don't have official application forms. What we ask for is a cover letter explaining why the student wants an internship here, a resume, reference list and 5-7 clips for the reporting jobs.
The summer reporting internships will be in metro and business. Both require at least one previous reporting internship. For those, send resume, references and clips to Lynn Kalber, Director of Administration/Newsroom.
The summer library internship applications should be sent to Library Director Sammy Alzofon.
The photography internships require applicants to have had at least one previous photo internship. In addition, we need to see a photo story (either in slides, prints or on CD) and clips of published works. For those, send materials to John J. Lopinot, Deputy Photo Director.
The internship program is open to college students who are interested in pursuing a career in the newspaper field. The competition, as with full-time jobs these days, is stiff.

Chicago Tribune Summer 2006 Internship Program Applicants who are pursuing careers in reporting, copy editing, graphics or photography are included in this opportunity. Our internship program seeks college juniors, seniors and graduate students who have at least one previous internship on a daily newspaper other than college.
We set the same high performance standards for interns as we do for our regular staff members. This is not a teaching program. Tribune interns must be able to - and often do - cover major stories their first few days on the job. The salary is $567 a week for 12 weeks.

Chicago Tribune seeks college juniors, seniors or graduate students with college and/or professional experience writing and producing news content in three or more media, including newspapers, TV, the Internet and radio. For 12 weeks the intern will work in our newsroom for the Electronic News Department and alongside newspaper reporters and editors and TV and web news producers to create multimedia content for the Tribune.s broadcast partners and websites.
Duties will include running the Tribune newsroom TV facility, shooting and editing TV segments and producing web content based on newspaper stories. Tribune interns must be able to - and often do - work on stories their first few days on the job, though there will be a training period on the specific production and editing systems in place at the Tribune.

The Detroit News offers 12-week summer internships to college journalism students who are juniors, seniors or recent college graduates. Internship opportunities are available for reporters, copy editors, photographers and graphic artists. The News offers hands-on experience and expects interns to assume a standard workload. Weekly training sessions on various newsroom topics are also provided. Pay is $524 a week.
