Projects
Zeta Xi is working on several exciting projects this year:
Service Events

Members paint the bookstore window in 2006.
Young Writers Mentoring Program (YWMP): Zeta Xi formed the YWMP as a way to unite Sigma Tau members with children in the community. The program was created in conjunction with Union Park Middle School administrators. Mentors create lesson plans, activities, worksheets, and games that we hope will help the students succeed and excel in school and in life. Our goals are to help and motivate the students in their reading and writing, thereby increasing their chances of passing such standardized tests as the FCAT, as well as preparing them for high school composition. Ultimately, we hope to create a nurturing environment that will help burgeoning writers find their voice.
Reading Day for Kids: Sigma Tau will be collaborating this semester with the Coalition for the Homeless to hold afternoons filled with fun reading and writing activities and games. Zeta Xis will team up with volunteers from the Central Florida community to get the Coalition kids excited about reading and writing.

Community Outreach
High School Essay Contest: The club reaches out to the community each year by holding an essay contest for local high school students. Zeta Xis will develop topics and serve as judges. The essays will be due March 2007, and currently we are looking for members to join the committee and lead this event.
Social Events
-
RUSH Events: We want to show potential members what the Sigma Tau community spirit is all about. Thus, we will be holding three Rush-like events leading up to the membership application due date (which is February 9th). Check out the Calendar and join us as we act like beatniks (Beatnik Night), play with words (Scrabble/Boggle Night), and chat around a roaring fire (Bonfire Night)!
Inductions: This first gathering sets the tone for the rest of the year. We welcome new members, remember and reaffirm our Society's mission, and get a chance to get to know one another and have some fun as we set off to fulfill that mission.
- End-of-the-Year Party: To say goodbye to our graduates and recognize our outstanding members.
Fundraiser
- Book Sale: Every year, Sigma Tau holds a book sale to boost our treasury and distribute quality literature to the UCF student body. (Note: Participation in the book sale is mandatory for all members, old and new!)
Miscellaneous
- STD International Convention: This spring, Sigma Tau Delta's International Convention will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This annual event is the largest gathering of the Sigma Tau Delta community, with members arriving from around the world. Students can submit papers and apply for awards and scholarships by visiting the International Chapter's web site.
