Dear Sigma Tau Deltas,

As you all know, elections of our new executive board tomorrow. Ballots are in our mailbox on the third floor of Colbourn Hall, just follow the instructions written on the envelope. Voting will happen between 8 am and 5 pm. A few brief orders of business before I list speeches provided by a few of the nominees: After much deliberation and assessment of projected participation, we have decided not to have a Vonnegut marathon reading. Instead, if you would like to do something fun with Sigma Tau Delta this semester, several of us are going to the Shakespeare Festival to see McBeth. Keep your eyes open for an e-mail from Dani with more information on that. Our last meeting will be April 17th. Yes, I know you cannot contain your sadness, but here's the good news. In accordance with tradition, the last meeting will be a pot luck. Please tell me what you will be bringing (so we can make sure that there won't be 3 Publix cookies trays and nothing to drink) and show up ready to have a good time. Also, if any of you would be interested in seeing what a thesis defense for a HIM undergraduate thesis looks like because you might be considering doing one, (or because you would just like to support your awesome Secretary a.k.a. me) I will be defending my thesis next Wednesday. I sincerely invite you to attend my defense (I'll be defending an excerpt of my novel). So the defense will be held in the Colbourn Hall conference room on the third floor, at 1:40 pm on April 9th.

With all that said, here are a few words from our officer candidates for tomorrow's election. The candidates are: President: Katie Drozd Vice President: Tamra Martin Secretary: Rebecca Howes Treasurer: Lauren Quirke and Wendy Wurtzel Historian: Adam Perry

(Please go out to vote because we do have two Treasurer candidates, so it is a run off, not just an unopposed election.)

Hi everyone, my name is Wendy Wurtzel and I am running for Treasurer of Sigma Tau Delta. I am a junior majoring in English Literature and have been a member since I was a freshman. I began as an apprentice and as of last semester I am now a full member. I am very excited to be running for the Treasurer position. If I am voted to be the next Treasurer, I look forward to supporting my fellow officers in all duties relating to Sigma Tau Delta. I especially hope to develop new fundraising ideas and assist in recruiting new members. I will also bring with me the knowledge I have gained over the past three years about the organization and about budgeting and fundraising matters. I believe that I can help continue to make this organization as outstanding as it already is today. Best of luck to all the nominees!

Thank you! Wendy Wurtzel To All Sigma Tau Delta Members,

My name is Rebecca Howes and I was nominated for the position of Secretary. Though I was only inducted this spring, I have a lot of experience with this position. I was secretary of Art Club for my sophomore and junior years of high school as well as president of National Art Honors Society my senior year. I have a lot of experience with club leadership as well as organizing events and fund raisers. I hope to get to know all of you this coming school year!

Sincerely, Rebecca Howes Dear Fellow Sigma Tau Delta Members,

I have accepted the nomination for Vice President of Sigma Tau Delta. I would like to let all of you know about myself, and why I believe I would make a good candidate for this position. I am originally from Richmond, Virgina and I am finishing up my junior year here at UCF. I am pursuing a degree in Creative Writing and another one in Advertising/Public Relations (dual degree). I believe I would make a good Vice President because I have had the chance to experience recruitment responsibilities first hand. I was the scholarship committee chair for my coed-fraternity Phi Sigma Pi for two semesters. In this position, I had to create scholarly events that would inspire brothers to come out and participate. For both semesters our committee was voted the best committee in the fraternity. My Advertising/Public Relations degree has also allowed me to experience marketing strategies that I believe will help us increase our numbers in the coming semesters. Some ideas I have for recruitment are as follows: emailing incoming freshman so they can become associate members and then full members later, mingle with other organizations for events like Relay for Life and Homecoming so our organization can be known, and other ideas I would love to share with you at the next meeting (I don't want this email to be too long:-). If you have any questions for me, please feel free to email me at See you next meeting!

Tamra Hello everyone,

As you may already know, nominations for the executive board of Sigma Tau Delta were held last meeting. My fellow officers have kindly decided to nominate me for the position of President. I have chosen to accept the nomination, because 1) I believe that have been a diligent member of Sigma Tau Delta since joining, 2) my position as STD's Treasurer provided me with valuable experience of being an officer and 3) with my drive to take on different responsibilities and tasks, I hope to continue making Sigma Tau Delta a great organization. The official voting is tomorrow, but I just wanted to let everyone know who was running for the position :) Thanks a lot, -- Sincerely, Ekaterina
