About Us

Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, has more than 600 active chapters, inducts about 7,000 new members per year, and is one of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies. The Zeta Xi Chapter was formed in 1980 at the University of Central Florida.

Our Purpose

The Zeta Xi chapter is committed to building and nurturing a thriving community of English majors and minors at UCF. The club is dedicated to the success of its members--as students and as people. To this end, Zeta Xi strives to provide its members resources for fellowship, scholarship, and service.

International Membership Requirements:

  1. You must be a currently enrolled student—undergraduate or graduate—majoring or minoring in English.
  2. You must have completed a minimum of two college courses in English language or literature beyond the freshman requirements.
  3. You must hold a minimum cumulative grade of B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) in English.
  4. You must have attained a ranking in the highest 35 percent of your classes in general scholarship.
  5. You must have completed at least three semesters or five quarters of college course work.
  6. Dues include $37 one-time international fee and $13 annual chapter fee ($10 for returning members).

* Faculty advisors are considered active members.

Associate Membership

Associate membership in Sigma Tau Delta is internationally recognized and is reserved for three categories of people:

  1. Currently enrolled students who are not English majors or minors but who meet the academic standards for scholarship and are interested in literature or language.
  2. Faculty members who have English degrees, but who are not chapter advisors.
  3. Sigma Tau Delta alumni who are interested in remaining involved.

Apprentice Membership

Apprentice membership in Zeta Xi is locally recognized and is reserved for underclassman who are not yet eligible to pledge for active membership but intend to do so within a year.
