Orlando Spring, Summer and Fall Internship Program

The mission of the American Lung AssociationR is to prevent lung
disease and promote lung health.

The American Lung AssociationR is the oldest voluntary health
organization in the United States, with a National Office and constituent and
affiliate associations around the country. Founded in 1904 to fight tuberculosis,
the American Lung AssociationR today fights lung disease in all its forms,
with special emphasis on asthma, tobacco control and environmental health.
The American Lung AssociationR is funded by contributions from the public,
along with gifts and grants from corporations, foundations and government
agencies. The American Lung AssociationR achieves its many successes
through the work of thousands of committed volunteers and staff.

Internships with the American Lung Association of Florida offices in
Orlando are shadow based as opposed to apprenticeship based.  There are
hundreds of individual skills you can learn by spending time with the country's
oldest voluntary health organization.  During your program, you will work
alongside one staff member of the organization, fulfilling your credit
requirement through on-the- job experience.  We do not have our interns regularly
answer phones or file, but we also do not have any down time for our interns,
as you will be very busy during your experience with the ALA.  Not
everything you do will be glamorous, but you will be doing the exact same things
that your supervisor is involved with.  You will attend meetings,
presentations, events and more.

All interns are strongly encouraged to complete the program for
credit, fulfilling the hour requirement of their individual program.  All
students must first submit a resume and visit the ALA offices for an interview.
This is a competitive internship typically with more applicants than we can
accept.  All majors are accepted from all public and private
educational institutions.

Development/Special Events Internship

This student will assist The Director of Special Events with the
various non-profit operations, development and special events activities of
the Orlando office. Some student experience will include work with event
planning and management, donor development, membership management,
database management, fundraising and event logistics.  Students will work with
media outlets, press releases, minor graphic design work and volunteer
management. Students will set their own weekly schedule, but would be required to
attend any evening or weekend events.

Programming Internship

This student will assist the Program Director with implementation of
the various mission related activities of the Orlando office.  This
includes programs in elementary and high schools that combat Asthma and Teen Smoking.
This student will be trained as an instructor of the national "Open
Airways for Schools" program.  Student experience will include health care
issue management, volunteer management, community awareness campaigns and
public advocacy such as ballot initiatives.

Executive Internship

This student will work directly with the Executive Director of the
American Lung Association of Florida, Central Area.  This student will work on
all activities of the ALA, attend presentations, board meetings, events
and more.  This student will work on fundraising, programming, advocacy
issues, public relations, volunteer management and more.

Please submit all resumes to
