Professor Vela teaches political philosophy and political economy at UCF, specializing in contemporary theories of justice and democracy. His research explores the connection between democracy and the economy. In particular it asks: how should corporations, labor unions, and other economic institutions be governed? Professor Vela is developing a theory of economic democracy to address current debates regarding corporate governance, regulatory policy, and economic reform.
