Publishing Opportunities

Various resources are available in the UCF Library to identify publishing opportunities in periodicals.

• Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory, available as an online database,  is a unique, current, comprehensive and continuously updated source of information on selected periodicals and serials published in the United States and throughout the world.
• MLA Directory of Periodicals: a Guide to Journals and Series in Languages and Literatures - INDEX PB 6.M6222 - The electronic version, updated every six months, is now available as part of the UCF Library's subscription to the MLA International Bibliography database on Gale.

To identify other directories listing periodicals associated with a particular discipline, search the UCF Library catalog on WebLUIS with various keywords associated with the discipline AND the subject keyword "periodicals".  To identify periodicals included in the UCF Library collections, search the UCF Library catalog on WebLUIS with various keywords associated with the discipline and limit the format to "Periodical".

Journal Citation Reports (UCF Access only) provides easy access to data that helps you evaluate and compare scholarly journals, using citation data drawn from over 8,400 journals from over 3,000 publishers worldwide.  The JCR is the only source of citation data on journals, and includes virtually all specialties in the areas of science, technology, and social sciences. The JCR can show you the:

• highest impact journals
• most frequently used journals
• hottest journals
• largest journals

Various Websites exist with other useful information:

• Librarians' Index to the Internet - Periodicals
• Citation Management Programs help researchers: (1) collect citations from online sources; (2) organize references by subject, project, author, or other schemes; and (3) create bibliographies formatted according to MLA, APA, or other widely used citation styles.
• Refereed Journals provides some guidelines for identifying and searching scholarly journals
