How to Access UCF Library Databases and Resources from off campus

General Internet Information

UCF Library Homepage provides links to the UCF library catalog and gateway to other resources, such as:
http://library.ucf.edu/

Go back to the UCF Library Homepage and select the link under Find for Articles & Databases. In the menu bar on the left side of the screen, select Databases A-Z to connect to the following databases:

From the UCF Library homepage, select Government Resources and then select Census.  From the "Resources for Statistics, Demographics & Census" webpage, select American FactFinder.

In the left column, select Data Sets.  Change the selection on the next page to Census 2000 Summary File 3 (SF 3), and then in the shaded area select Detailed Tables.  Change the selection by geographic type to County Subdivision and then follow the instructions to add all the County Subdivisions for your local county.  After you have added the geographic areas to the selections at the bottom, select the Next button.  Select table P19 Age by Language Spoken at Home by Ability to Speak English for the Population 5+ Years and add it to the selection at the bottom and then select the Show Results button.  After looking at the results, select the link for the title of the table (P19 AGE BY LANGUAGE...) to see a help page and then select the Subject Characteristics link in that help page for "Language Spoken at Home and Ability to Speak English" for more detailed definitions.

Back on the webpage displaying the data results for Table P19, in the line near the top of the webpage which begins "You are here: Main...", select the word "Tables" near the end of the line.  In the box near the bottom of the screen, highlight P19 and click on the Remove button.  In the selection box, scroll down about halfway to PCT10 (There are four large groups of tables in the list: P1-P160I, H1-H121, PCT1-PCT76I, and HCT1-HCT48I).  Select table PCT10 Age by Language Spoken at Home for the Population 5+ Years and add it to the selection at the bottom and then select the Show Results button.  This table provides details about some individual languages that were grouped together in the results for table P19.  Note that the database retained the geographic area you previously selected.

Other databases can be found from the UCF Library Homepage by selecting the link for Articles & Databases and then selecting the A-Z list or the subject lists for Education or Language & Literature.  Examples include:

William S. Gray Research Collection in Reading provides a retrospective compilation of reading research documents from key journals, books, research reports, and monographs published between 1884 and 1980. The full text documents are available in the UCF Library on microfiche - LB 1050.W469. An author/subject guide is available in the Reference Collection under the same call number. Author/subject index cards in the drawers preceding the microfiche documents also provide abstracts.
