- American Periodicals Index
covers all known periodical publications that had their inception and ending
from 1741 to 1935. The full text of the actual periodicals are in the UCF
Library in three microfilm collections (often referred to as APS I, APS II and
APS III) and some of the full text is now available online in the database
American Periodicals Series Online. The electronic index is incomplete but
growing. The print index provides limited subject access to the complete
series and is shelved in the UCF Library's Reference Collection at REF
AP2.A388. Nearly one hundred of the periodicals in the APS II & APS III
collections are at least partially indexed in Poole's Index to
Periodical Literature [Index AI3.P7] (1802-1906). Poole's
Index... was followed by International Index to Periodicals
(1907-1965), Social Sciences & Humanities Index (1965-1974),
Social Sciences Index (1974- ), and Humanities Index (1974- ).
The last two indexes are available electronically as Wilson databases:
Social Sciences Full Text (1984- ) and Humanities Full Text
(1984- ).
- Biography Resource Center
(GaleNet database) provides information on more than one million people from
throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines and subject
areas. See also: Biography & Genealogy Master Index, a
comprehensive index to nearly 12 million biographical sketches in more than
2700 volumes and editions of
current and retrospective reference books, covering both contemporary and
historical figures throughout the world.
- Citation Management Options
help researchers: * Collect citations from online sources; * Organize
references by subject, project, author, or other schemes; * Create
bibliographies formatted according to MLA, APA, or other widely used citation
styles.
- Dissertation Abstracts
(ProQuest database) covers every doctoral dissertation completed in the U.S.
at accredited institutions for the last 150 years. Includes some master's
theses and foreign language
dissertations. Dates of coverage: 1861+
- EBSCOhost databases:
Academic Search Premier is a scholarly, multi-disciplinary full text
database containing full text for nearly 4,600 scholarly publications,
including more than 3,500 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to the full
text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for all 8,043 journals in
the collection. Dates of coverage: 1975+ The Professional
Development Collection provides a highly specialized collection of electronic
information especially for professional educators, from children's health and development
to cutting-edge pedagogical theory and practice. Middle Search Plus
provides full text for nearly 90 magazines covering general topics appropriate for middle
and jr. high school students. Primary Search provides full text for
nearly 50 children's magazines and over 100 children's pamphlets, designed for the
elementary school student.
- Education Full Text (Wilson
database) indexes English-language periodicals and yearbooks published in the U.S. and
elsewhere. Subjects include administration, teaching methods and curriculum, literacy,
government funding, and more. Dates of electronic coverage: 1984+ The UCF Library
has the print version, Education Index, at Index L11.E39 from
1929+
- Education in SAGE Full-Text
Collections provides full text of 19 education journals. Dates of
coverage: 1968+
- Educational Research
Abstracts (Taylor & Francis database) provides selected indexing of
over 700 journals. Abstracts are selected for their relevance to international
educational research, educational technology, multicultural education, higher
education, organisation and management, sociology of education, special needs
and technical education and training.
- ERIC (EBSCOhost database) is a
guide to published and unpublished sources on thousands of educational topics, with
information from RIE (Resources in Education) and CIJE (Current Index to
Journals in Education). The ERIC database is also available at
http://www.eric.ed.gov/.

ERIC Thesaurus
- Use the Look Up feature on the Search Wizard to see a list of education
descriptors used in ERIC citations. The Thesaurus offers term definitions and
arrays of related terms to help the searcher to pinpoint the desired concept.
- JSTOR provides full text, page image
from over 300 scholarly journals, including approximately 30 education journals,
such as: Journal of
Educational Sociology / Sociology of Education (1927-2002), Journal of
Higher Education (1930-2001), Journal of Negro Education (1932-2001),
School Review/American Journal of Education (1893-2001), Child
Development (1930-1999), and Monographs of the Society for Research in
Child Development (1936-1999).
- Kluwer Online provides full text articles from approximately 600 Kluwer
journals, including Learning Environments Research (1998+), Journal of
Mathematics Teacher Education (1998+), Journal of Personnel Evaluation in
Education (1997+), and Reading & Writing (1997+). Partial list of journals
- LexisNexis databases
(CIS/Lexis-Nexis): Congressional gives researchers access to
vast and varied information published by and about Congress, including full
text of almost all Committee Reports from 1990 forward and Congressional
testimony from 1988 forward, and indexing & abstracting from the CIS/Index to
Publications of the U.S. Congress from 1970 forward. Statistical
provides the full text of Statistical Abstract of the U. S.,
plus indexing and abstracts (with some full text available) from American
Statistics Index (ASI), Statistical Reference Index (SRI), and
Index to International Statistics (IIS). Academic
provides more than 9.5 million documents from over 18,300 sources, including
access to company profiles and financial reports, government transcripts,
trade journals and academic and legal databases. Their files are updated with
full-text documents from general interest wire services, newspapers, and
magazines from around the world.
- netLibrary provides over
30,000 full text ebooks for previewing or 2-hour checkout.
- PsycINFO (EBSCOhost
database) - from the American Psychological Association - indexed materials
are selected from more than 1,300 journals published in 50 countries and 28
languages. Most records have

- Sociological Abstracts (Cambridge
Scientific Abstracts database) is a primary resource from an international selection of
over 2,600 journals and other serials publications, plus conference papers, books, and
dissertations. Dates of electronic coverage: 1963+ The UCF Library has the print
indexes at Index HM1.S67 for 1953+
- Web of Science - ISI Citation
Databases collectively index more than 8,000 high quality, peer-reviewed journals
cover-to-cover, providing users with complete bibliographic data, searchable author
abstracts when available in the science and social sciences source material, and cited
references from the world's most influential journals. Dates of coverage: 1965+

Electronic Serials
(UCF Curriculum Materials Center) provides
a list of some education journals available electronically.
William S. Gray Research
Collection in Reading provides a retrospective compilation of reading research
documents from key journals, books, research reports, and monographs published between
1884 and 1980. The full text documents are available in the UCF Library on microfiche - LB
1050.W469. An author/subject guide is available in the Reference Collection under the same
call number. Author/subject index cards in the drawers preceding the microfiche documents
also provide abstracts.
