Public Affairs & Law Resources

• Criminal Justice Periodical Index (ProQuest database) provides thorough indexing of over 100 U.S., British and Canadian journals in these disciplines: corrections, criminal law, criminology, drug abuse, family law, juvenile justice, police studies, prison administration, rehabilitation, and security systems.  Available in print INDEX HV6001.C754 from 1975 to Sep 1998.  Available electronically 1975+.

• Criminal Justice Abstracts (SilverPlatter database) is available on campus (& off-campus using Pegasus dial-up), indexing the major journals in criminology and related disciplines, books, and reports from government and non-governmental agencies. Dates of coverage: 1968+

• LexisNexis Databases (CIS/Lexis-Nexis) - Academic provides more than 9.5 million documents from over 18,300 sources. Lexis-Nexis Universe provides access to company profiles and financial reports, government transcripts, trade journals and academic and legal databases. Their files are updated with full-text documents from general interest wire services, newspapers, and magazines from around the world.  Congressional gives researchers access to vast and varied information published by and about Congress. Congressional Universe has full text of almost all Committee Reports from 1990 forward and Congressional testimony from 1988 forward. Statistical provides the full text of Statistical Abstract of the U. S., plus indexing and abstracts (with some full text available) from American Statistics Index (ASI), Statistical Reference Index (SRI), and Index to International Statistics (IIS). 

Popular Indexes

• Academic Index (WebLUIS database) indexes articles in approximately 1000 scholarly journals and popular magazines in the arts, humanities, social sciences, science and technology. Abstracts are included for some articles. Provides access to ASCII full text of some articles. Dates of coverage: 1982+

• WilsonSelect (FirstSearch database) contains indexed and abstracted articles from periodicals, all with ASCII full text online. The database is comprised of records from the following H.W. Wilson databases: Readers' Guide Abstracts, Social Sciences Abstracts, Humanities Abstracts, General Science Abstracts and Wilson Business Abstracts. Dates of coverage: 1994+

• EBSCOhost Academic Search Elite provides abstracts and indexing for over 3,200 scholarly journals covering the social sciences, humanities, education and more. Also offers full text for over 1,000 journals with many dating back to 1990. Includes coverage of over 1,700 peer-reviewed journals.

• PsycINFO (WebLUIS database) - from the American Psychological Association - indexed materials are selected from more than 1,300 journals published in 50 countries and 28 languages. Most records have abstracts. Dates of coverage: 1887+
• Social Sciences Abstracts (FirstSearch database) covers some 350 core periodicals in the fields of anthropology, economics, geography, law and criminology, political science, social work, sociology, and international relations. Dates of coverage: 1983+
• Dissertation Abstracts (FirstSearch database) covers every doctoral dissertation completed in the U.S. at accredited institutions for the last 150 years. Includes some master's theses and foreign language dissertations. Dates of coverage: 1861+
• Web of Science (Databases A-Z) - ISI Citation Databases collectively index more than 8,000 high quality, peer-reviewed journals cover-to-cover, providing users with complete bibliographic data, searchable author abstracts when available in the science and social sciences source material, and cited references from the world's most influential journals. Dates of coverage: 1977+
