How to Access UCF Library Databases and Resources from off campus

UCF Library Homepage provides links to the UCF library catalog and gateway to other resources, such as:

• Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost database) is a scholarly, multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for nearly 4,600 scholarly publications, including more than 3,500 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for all 8,043 journals in the collection. Dates of coverage: 1975+
• America: History & Life (ABC-CLIO) indexes over 2,000 international journals, books, and dissertations on the history and culture of the United States and Canada from prehistoric times to the present. The electronic counterpart to the printed America: History and Life. Dates of coverage: 1964+
• American Periodicals Index covers all known periodical publications that had their inception and ending from 1741 to 1935. The full text of the actual periodicals are in the UCF Library in three microfilm collections (often referred to as APS I, APS II and APS III) and some of the full text is now available online in the database American Periodicals Series Online. The electronic index is incomplete but growing.  The print index provides limited subject access to the complete series and is shelved in the UCF Library's Reference Collection at REF AP2.A388. Nearly one hundred of the periodicals in the APS II & APS III collections are at least partially indexed in Poole's Index to Periodical Literature [Index AI3.P7] (1802-1906). Poole's Index... was followed by International Index to Periodicals (1907-1965), Social Sciences & Humanities Index (1965-1974), Social Sciences Index (1974- ), and Humanities Index (1974- ). The last two indexes are available electronically as Wilson databases: Social Sciences Full Text (1984- ) and Humanities Full Text (1984- ).
• Biography Resource Center (GaleNet database) provides information on more than one million people from throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines and subject areas. See also: Biography & Genealogy Master Index, a comprehensive index to nearly 12 million biographical sketches in more than 2700 volumes and editions of current and retrospective reference books, covering both contemporary and historical figures throughout the world.
• Business Source Premier (EBSCOhost database) provides full text for more than 7,400 scholarly business journals and other sources, including full text for nearly 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business. This database provides full text (PDF) for more than 350 of the top scholarly journals dating as far back as 1922.
• Chicano Database (Eureka database) is a comprehensive bibliographic index representing all types of material for information about Mexican-American topics, with extensive coverage from the 1960s to the present, and selective coverage dating back to the early 1900s. 
• Citation Management Options help researchers: * Collect citations from online sources; * Organize references by subject, project, author, or other schemes; * Create bibliographies formatted according to MLA, APA, or other widely used citation styles.
• Contemporary Women's Issues (GaleNet database) provides full text access to global information on women, including journals, newsletters, research reports from non-profit groups, government and international agencies, and fact sheets. Information on women in over 150 countries is compiled in a single collection bringing together such disciplines as sociology, psychology, health, education and human rights.
• Dissertation Abstracts (FirstSearch database) covers every doctoral dissertation completed in the U.S. at accredited institutions for the last 150 years. Includes some master's theses and foreign language dissertations. Dates of coverage: 1861+
• Ethnic Newswatch (ProQuest database) - a full-text collection of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press.
• Gale Virtual Reference Library provides full text access to some encyclopedias and almanacs, including Dictionary of American History, Encyclopedia of African-American Culture & History, Gale Encyclopedia of Multicultural America, and St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture.
• GenderWatch (ProQuest database) is a full text database of publications that focus on the impact of gender across a broad spectrum of subject areas. Publications include academic and scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, regional publications, books, booklets and pamphlets, conference proceedings, and government, n-g-o and special reports.
• HarpWeek: The Civil War Era and Reconstruction I-VI (1857-1912) provides full text from original issues of Harper's Weekly.
• Historical Abstracts (ABC-CLIO) abstracts and indexes literature covering countries other than the United States and Canada in the subject areas of history, the social sciences and humanities. The scope of coverage is World History (1450 - present) and related areas including culture, diplomacy, economics, international relations and politics. Dates of coverage: 1954+
• History Resource Center: U.S. (GaleNet database) contains approximately 100,000 pages of 1,000 primary documents with corresponding facsimile pages. Other content includes more than 25,000 reference documents from various Gale Group sources, magazine & newspaper coverage for more than 90 history-related full-text titles, and over 2,000 photographs & illustrations, including 30 historical maps courtesy of Yale University.
• In the First Person (Alexander Street Press database) provides in-depth indexing of more than 2,500 collections of oral history in English from around the world. With future releases, the index will broaden to identify other first-person content, including letters, diaries, memoirs, and autobiographies, and other personal narratives.
• JSTOR provides full text from over 300 scholarly journals, including over 50 history journals, such as: American Historical Review (1895-1999), Journal of Negro History (1916-2001), Journal of Southern History (1935-1999), and William & Mary Quarterly (1892-2000).
• LexisNexis databases (CIS/Lexis-Nexis): Congressional gives researchers access to vast and varied information published by and about Congress, including full text of almost all Committee Reports from 1990 forward and Congressional testimony from 1988 forward, indexing & abstracting from the CIS/Index to Publications of the U.S. Congress from 1970 forward, and indexing of other Congressional publications from 1789 forward. Statistical provides the full text of Statistical Abstract of the U. S., plus indexing and abstracts (with some full text available) from American Statistics Index (ASI), Statistical Reference Index (SRI), and Index to International Statistics (IIS).  Academic provides more than 9.5 million documents from over 18,300 sources, including access to company profiles and financial reports, government transcripts, trade journals and academic and legal databases. Their files are updated with full-text documents from general interest wire services, newspapers, and magazines from around the world.
• netLibrary provides over 46,000 full text ebooks for previewing or 4-hour checkout.
• PsycINFO (EBSCOhost database) - from the American Psychological Association - indexed materials are selected from more than 1,300 journals published in 50 countries and 28 languages. Most records have abstracts. Dates of coverage: 1887+
• SportDiscus (EBSCOhost database) offers comprehensive, bibliographic coverage of sport, fitness and related disciplines. This database contains over 650,000 records with journal and monograph coverage going back to 1800; over 20,000 dissertations and theses and reference to articles in 60 different languages.
• Sports Business Research Network combines market research from the largest single research supplier to the industry, the National Sporting Goods Association; the U.S. Department of Commerce; various sports governing bodies; and full-text articles from 14 magazines and newsletters published by VNU, the world's largest sporting goods trade publisher, and newsletters provided by leading independent industry experts. Subjects covered include sporting goods industry, sports sponsorship and marketing, broadcasting, facilities, broadcasting and new media.
• Web of Science - ISI Citation Databases collectively index more than 8,000 high quality, peer-reviewed journals cover-to-cover, providing users with complete bibliographic data, searchable author abstracts when available in the science and social sciences source material, and cited references from the world's most influential journals. Dates of coverage: 1965+
• WilsonWeb contains indexed and abstracted articles from periodicals, including full text from many titles. The interface provides access to the following H.W. Wilson databases: Applied Science & Technology, Art, Biography, Biological & Agricultural, Education, Book Review Digest, Essay & General Literature, General Science, Humanities, Index to Legal Periodicals & Books, Library Literature & Information Science, Readers' Guide, Social Sciences, and Wilson Business. Dates of coverage: indexing, 1982+ ; abstracts 1984+ ; full text, 1994+
• WorldCat (FirstSearch database) is the world's most comprehensive bibliography, with 36 million bibliographic records representing 370 languages and covering information from 4,000 years of knowledge.
