Relay for Life at the University of Central Florida
Captain's Corner

How to Begin:

  1. Attend the Relay For Life Kickoff to receive your Team Captain’s packet. Assemble Team Member packets if not yet completed.
  2. Begin recruiting your team (10 – 15 people). See “Ten Ways to Recruit Team Members.”
  3. Secure your team commitment fee of $100.00. Approach your employer to sponsor your team, do a fundraiser for your commitment fee or request a donation from each team member.
  4. Complete your “Team Registration Form.” T-shirt orders are placed and newsletters are sent out based on the information collected from the registration forms. Be sure to include all necessary information. Please respect the due date!
  5. Attend the Team Captain’s meetings. These meetings are filled with great ideas to help you succeed.
  6. Set a fundraising goal. If you are a returning team, it is good to increase your goal every year. If you are a new team, strive for a minimum of $200 per team member.

Goals: # of Team Members: _______     Team Fundraising Goal: $ _____________

  7. Encourage team fundraising events in addition to individual fundraising. Raising your money as a team promotes team building and camaraderie. Start early so most of your funds can be turned in at bank night.
  8. Hold team meetings. Recognize your successes and promote team spirit. Decide on a theme for your campsite.
  9. Remember matching funds. You or your team members may have a matching funds program at your worksite. Remember, it is the responsibility of the employee to receive the necessary forms from their employer and turn them in to the committee along with their funds.
  10. Attend Bank Night/Day(s). Money that is raised after your bank night/day may be turned in at the event.
  11. Have Fun!
