PSA accepting nominations for
Outstanding Leadership and Outstanding Volunteer Awards, (Aug 16, 2005)
Since the establishment of Pakistani Students
Association at University of Central Florida (PSA@UCF)
in the spring of 2004, we have made significant progress towards increasing the
awareness about Pakistan, its history, and culture among the UCF students, staff
and community. To date, the success of several events organized by
PSA@UCF in pursuing the goals and commitments outlined by the PSA
Constitution would not have been possible without the initiative, hard work, and
commitment of many of our faculty, students and other community members.
Consequently, during the summer of 2005, Executive Council of
PSA@UCF established the Outstanding Leadership Award to acknowledge those
individuals who continuously work towards achieving goals set forth by Pakistani
Students Association at University of Central Florida (PSA@UCF). This award will be
awarded to selected students for recognition of efforts and services rendered in
the enhancement of the Image of Pakistan and their work towards creating
awareness of Pakistani culture, history, and traditions. Click

Basant: The Spring Festival of
Pakistan, (Apr 03, 2005)
Basant: The Spring Festival of Pakistan held by PSA
@ UCF was a grand success. UCF community and community from around the metro
area gathered to Memory Mall to enjoy the festivities. At one point there was
estimated to be 250+ attendees with an estimated total of 350+. The smell of
grilled chicken tikka and fresh purris filled the air. Children laughed and
played while getting their faces painted in the table setup by PSA. The youth
of Central Florida showed up in stunning numbers to fly kites and dance to the
latest in Pakistani pop. The attendees were blessed by beautiful weather.
Kites imported by PSA magically flew above the clear skies of Central
Florida, letting long time immigrants relive their long forgotten youths. The
elders of the community got time out of their busy schedules to chat about
current events with long time friends. The heroic PSA members gladly repaired
any kites that may have met their demise during a burst of wind or battle with
another kite. The success of this event makes it evident that Pakistani
Student Association is a prevailing student organization at the University of
Central Florida, despite it's young age. The potential for this organization
is limitless. We hope you enjoyed Basant: The Spring Festival of Pakistan and
ask that you join us in future events.

Double-Wicket Cricket Tournament, UCF Softball field, (Feb 20, 2005)
The sun was out and it was a great day to play
cricket. PSA's first ever double wicket cricket tournament was scheduled to be
held on February 22nd at 10 am sharp and in keeping with the grand old
traditions of Pakistan, the games began punctually at noon. There were 7 teams
in all, 14 players randomly matched to each other, and the teams were divided
into two pools. The qualifying rounds were hard fought with some nail-biting
last ball wins, and when the dust settled, four teams made it to the
semi-finals: Saad Masood and Asaad, Zeeshan and Tauseef, Saad
Ali and Farhan, and Adeel and Yaser. Zeeshan had to
retire hurt, due to a head on collision with Zia during an attempted catch,
and Hussain substituted for him. In the semis, Saad and Asaad
managed to down Hussain and Tauseef, and Adeel and
Yaser prevailed over Saad Ali and the irrepressible Farhan
in the other semi. That set-up the finale: Adeel and Yaser vs
Saad and Asaad. But what began in Pakistani tradition, ended in
Pakistani tradition, as the batting order of Saad and Asaad
collapsed pitifully under the gentle bowling of Adeel. Demoralized and
exhausted after 4 hours of cricket, Saad and Asaad conceded the
game, crowning Adeel and Yaser the first
PSA double wicket champions.
