References and Recommendations

Generally speaking I am happy to provide former and current students with references and letters of recommendation. It is one of the real joys of being a teacher - the ability to assist students in their quests for jobs, programs within the university and admission to graduate programs. Students who have performed well in class can usually be certain of good references and letters of recommendation. Some general advice on how to request references is found at the Purdue University website. You might look at this site before making your request:

In order to provide you the most effective reference or recommendation letter, I will need some information from you. If you have not yet created a resumé for yourself, this might be a good time to do that. A helpful site for creating a resumés is found at this site:

If you have a resumé already prepared, you can simply attach it to the request form. If not, please consider drafting one to help your instructor in responding to your request.

When you are ready to request the reference or recommendation letter, please download and complete the form at this link:

Then bring the form, your resumé and any other paperwork needed to complete the reference or recommendation to the Department of Philosophy office, 411 Colbourne Hall. Make sure you note when the required form or letter is due!
