THE PITFALLS OF USING FAKE I.D.s

Most students don’t realize that fake I.D.’s are serious criminal offenses that can stay with you for a lifetime. The following are just a few examples:

    1. You can lose your driver license privileges for up to one year.
    2. Because possessing a counterfeit driver license or I.D. card is a third degree felony, it hardly seems worth going to college. Just try to apply for employment with a major corporation. Most companies and government agencies ask for any arrest and convictions for misdemeanors and felonies.
    3. COST! The criminal justice process can be an expensive one. Not only do defendants face fines and imprisonment, they must deal with cost. Costs may include court cost, probationary cost, and any restitution. Private attorney fees also get expensive.
    4. BEING A CONVICTED FELON. Because of the status of being a convicted felon, the defendant looses certain privileges like voting or the right to possess firearms.
    5. STUDENT AFFAIRS. All reports from the University Police are forwarded to the Dean of Student Affairs for appropriate disposition.

TYPES OF FAKE I.D.s

    1. Using someone else’s driver license or I.D. card.
    2. The altered driver license. Changing the date of birth.
    3. The counterfeit driver license or I.D. card. This is one not authorized by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The old system for the counterfeiters was using poster board to create a backdrop assimilation of a license. However, with new technology, the color copier and home computer are new methods that profit the illegal investor in the range of $25.00 to $50.00 per I.D. card.

THE CRIMES

The law applies to fake I.D.’s that resemble not only the State of Florida, but any other state or political territory.
