The second MSW Student Association meeting for the fall was held on October 10, 2005 in HPA2 147 at 7pm. For those who could not attend the meeting please review the minutes:

MSW STUDENT ASSOCIATION MINUTES                                                                 OCTOBER 10, 2005

1. Discussion of new format for meetings

We will be having staff and professors present topics at each of our meetings that are of interest to students, such as:                        - State licensure                           - Lobby Day                                - Job searching

- Graduate certificates                        - Various field agencies                        - Others

2. Update on service projects from committee chairs:

Hurricane Katrina disaster relief-Committee Chair La Toya Woods lwoods99@hotmail.com

• The committee will begin collaborate with BSWSA Katrina drive
• The committee is also looking into working with the UCF Counseling Center to raise money for new UCF students who moved here from New Orleans 

Holiday Greeting Card Drive-Committee Chair Gina DiBella rdibella79@yahoo.com

• There will be “holiday card” donation box in the school social work office for donations of new greeting cards.
• Students are encouraged to place a “holiday card” donation box at their internship.                                                 

Habitat for Humanity-Committee Chair Kellye Thomas kellyethomas02@yahoo.com

• The committee is still collaboration and is encouraging anyone who is interested to join.

Charlee’s foster kids Committee Chair: Valerie Smith valjsmith@bellsouth.net

• Committee chair Valerie is currently working on needs list.

3. Upcoming Fundraisers-Committee Chair Dung Nguyen nvietd@yahoo.com

Car wash event on Saturday, November 5, 2005 from 10am-12pm

• Located at the Steak ‘n Shake restaurant at the corner of Alafaya and E. Colonial drive
• We need volunteers to wash, as well as sponges, a hose, buckets, and signs. You do not have to work the entire 3 hours if you can’t.
• Sign up on bulletin board!!!

Possible Bake Sale Friday, October 21, 2005 in the front atrium of HPA 1 (date not confirmed)

• We are looking for volunteers to work in shifts to cover the table
• Donations will be from Panera Bread

4. Update on Spring Projects

• The graduation celebration will be held on Friday, May 5^th at 4pm at the UCF Ballroom, tentatively.

ØThe association plans to work closely with the BSW student association on the project.

ØIt is important that as MSW students we are involved in the planning process.

ØPlease contact La Toya Woods if you would like to get involved.

• The Florida Association of Play Therapy 2006 Conference

ØThe conference will be held from Friday, April 21 through Saturday, April 22 at UCF at Live Oaks.

ØKey note speaker will be Nancy Boyd-Webb

ØFaculty member Jill Davis presented. She and the association will be looking for                   volunteers for registration. Please contact Jill Davis beginning in February to sign up.

• Learning workshops

Ø      Look for weekend workshops in the spring on topics such as specific theoretical frameworks.

5. MSW Student Association website

• Our new website is currently under construction by MSW student Melissa Singh.
• This will be a great resource for those of you who are not able to attend meetings
• When construction is complete, you will be able to visit us at http://pegasus.cc.ucf.edu/~mswa23/

We are still eager for as many MSW students to join the association as possible. It is ok if you can’t make any or all of the meetings. You can still help out in many ways by joining a committee and working on any of our service projects or fundraising events. Being part of the association not only keeps you involved in the school and surrounding community, but it also is a great way to meet more student and it looks great on a resume. Please contact any of our committee chairs or officers if you would like to get involved! Please look for a further email for our meeting time next month and who will be presenting.  Refreshments will be included.
