The third MSW Student Association meeting for the fall was held on Nov. 10th in HPA1 116 at 6pm. For those who could not attend the meeting please review the minutes:

1. Jill Davis spoke on Social Work Licensure

            - see Ms. Davis or Joanna Gribble for a copy of the handout provided at the meeting

2. Update on service projects from committee chairs:

Holiday Greeting Card Drive-Committee Chair Gina DiBella rdibella79@yahoo.com

• There is a “holiday card” donation box outside of the school social work office.
• We are collecting for donations of new greeting cards until Dec 7^th.
• A “card signing party” will be held on Saturday Dec 10^th, location and time TBA                                                

South Africa School Supplies Drive – Committee Chair: Jacqueline Vega honeyJV@ufl.edu

• MSWSA will be collecting school supplies to be taken on this summer’s South Africa trip.
• Contact Jacqueline or Dr. Turnage for more details, and look for flyers and donation boxes

• Contact Dr. Maiden if you would like to go on the trip to help Hurricane Katrina victims in Dec.

Car wash event on Saturday, November 5, 2005 from 10am-12pm

• Congratulations! We raised $148!
• Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the car wash and who came to get their car washed!

Bake Sale Monday, November 14, 2005

• We raised $96! Another successful fundraiser for Lobby Day and Graduation!
• Thank you to everyone’s last minute donations and taking time (and skipping classes J) to sit at the table.

4. Budget

• Meeting was held on Nov 14^th with BSWSA and Robin Kohn to discuss budget.
• Budget to be written for ‘06-‘07 school year and turned in by Nov. 23^rd at 5pm.
• MSWSA requesting money for Graduation Celebration 2007

5. Update on Spring Projects

• Dr. Leon – to speak on Job Searching/Interviewing
• Dr. Allgood – to speak on Lobby Day planning

Graduation Celebration

• Will be held on Friday, May 5^th at 4pm at the UCF Ballroom, tentatively.
• The BSW student association has begun planning a committee, and we need as many MSWs as we can to get involved.

The Florida Association of Play Therapy 2006 Conference

ØThe conference will be held from Friday, April 21 through Saturday, April 22 at UCF at Live Oaks.

ØKey note speaker will be Nancy Boyd-Webb

ØShe and the association will be looking for volunteers for registration.

6. New Ideas

·         Survey the MSW students for topics for faculty guest speakers, location and times of meetings

·         Creating a ballot for recognizing graduating MSWs (i.e. “funniest,” “quietest,” “most likely to go into politics,” etc.)

We are still eager for as many MSW students to join the association as possible. It is ok if you can’t make any or all of the meetings. You can still help out in many ways by joining a committee and working on any of our service projects or fundraising events. Being part of the association not only keeps you involved in the school and surrounding community, but it also is a great way to meet more student and it looks great on a resume. Please contact any of our committee chairs or officers if you would like to get involved! Please look for a further email for our meeting time next month and who will be presenting.  Refreshments will be included.
