My Story

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. Originally from Long Island, New York, I am currently living in "Sunny" Orlando, Florida. I am currently finishing my M.A. in Literature and will then proceed on to the Texts and Technology Program at the University of Central Florida. Before my entrance into college, I served four years in the United States Army working in a selective field known as Military Intelligence and Strategic Communications. Because of my experiences in the military, I strongly believe in non-violence; however, the military was a learning experience in that it taught me independence and commitment to community.

I am an English Composition instructor and enjoy fostering my students' interest in the Humanities and Literature. I currently teach at the University of Central Florida and have also tutored at Suffolk County Community College in Long Island, New York. I hope to one day obtain a tenored teaching position at a four year institute.

My hobbies include drawing, swimming, bicycling, hiking, yoga, and reading. I especially enjoy literature from the Caribbean, Eastern philosphy and history. I feel that my hobbies assist me in my endeavors to be both physically and mentally healthy. I also enjoy traveling to my family's Island of origin- Puerto Rico- at least once a year and visiting family and friends. My Caribbean vacations leave me feeling refreshed and centered.

Becuase of my life experiences, and the personal enjoyment I gain from the "great" outdoors, I have developed the personal ethic of, "do good and harm none." Because of this, I take great pride in supporting organizations that benefit and protect our environment as well as humankind. These are organizations such as: Greenpeace, Amnesty International, and The National Organization for Women. These organizations not only foster communication and understanding but they also foster peace through education and individual activism.

I sincerely believe that the most important things in life are family, friendships, and maintaining a holistic and healthy lifestyle.
