Professor Emeritus M. Timothy O’Keefe edits www.guidetocaribbeanvacations.com, which describes and compares Caribbean islands, their people, natural attractions and outdoor adventures.

 

O’Keefe retired from UCF and the Nicholson School of Communication in 2003. He founded UCF’s journalism program in 1968, the year the school opened, and served as the faculty adviser to the school newspaper during its first year.

 

Journalism Quarterly once cited him as one of the 24 most productive mass communication           researchers in the United States, "Research Article Productivity of U.S. Journalism               Faculties," (Summer, 1973, pp. 246-54.)

 

As a writing instructor, O’Keefe’s interest turned to producing material for newspapers, books and magazines. While at UCF, he published more than 1,000 magazine and newspaper articles and approx. 8,000 photographs worldwide, including nine National Geographic Society books; Time-Life Books; Reader's Digest Books; Scientific American; Smithsonian; National Geographic Traveler; Newsweek; Caribbean Travel & Life; New York Times; Chicago Tribune; Miami Herald; and many more.

O’Keefe’s work has won more than 50 regional and national awards for writing and photography. Tampa Bay Magazine named him “Florida’s premier wildlife photographer and writer.”

Listed in Who’s Who in America, O’Keefe served as president of the, Florida Outdoor Writers Association from 1990-91.

 

He currently serves as First Vice Chair, Atlantic-Caribbean Chapter, Society of American 

Travel Writers and is on the faculty of SATW’S Institute for Guidebook & Travel Writing.
