INTERNSHIP SUPERVISION

Coordinator for Physical Education Intern Placement (from 1989-1996). Supervised and advised all interns. Responsible for advising and signing internship applications. Made all the school placements and acted as a liaison between the University and the public schools.

Undergraduate Physical Education Major - Advisor
Faculty advisor for approximately 35 juniors and seniors.

Athlete Retention Committee
Work with athletes that are on athletic probation. Three to six athletes must meet with me weekly.

LEAD Scholars
Supervised a LEAD Scholar Assistantship 1996-2001. In addition, LEAD Scholars meet with me individually and in small groups during the course of the semester.

Review student portfolios and work with students who need help.

Physical Education Majors Club Advisor
(l988-2000) Presently stay involved with the club and new advisor.
The club is very active professionally. Annually:  Thirty to forty students attend the State Conference (FAHPERD) each year.

  • Students assist with community and school efforts such as the Florida Olympics for the Handicapped, intramural and field days, Very Special Arts, and wellness workshops.
  • Students (ranges from fifteen to thirty students) attend and some have presented at conferences. One regular commitment is a session called - "Variety Pack" at the Elementary Physical Education Conference, in Jekyll Island, GA.
  • An annual Awards and Graduation Banquet/Celebration is held each spring.

FUNDED

Fitness Assessment (2002-2003) Sports and Fitness Award $5,000.   Funding from Polar/HealthFirst Corporation to develop fitness assessment website and certification.  

Municipal Solid Waste Management Learning Tool (2000-2002) CO-PI with Debbie Reinhart, Associate Dean, College of Engineering and Computer ScineceAward from National Science Foundation for $74,938.  Research objectives include:  1) Develop of quality supplementary electronic/digital materials to enhance curriculum concerning Solid Waste Management; 2) Provide experiential and problem solving opportunities for students as they develop modules and projects; 3) Develop learning communities with collaboration between College of Engineering & Computer Science, College of Education, and K-12 at-risk schools; and 4) Develop and publish techniques that have application to other engineering and science fields.

Tech IMPACT (2000-2003)  College of Education Award -  - $1,030,173.   Federally funded Implementation PT3 (Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology) grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.  Goals:  Prepare future teachers and practicing teachers to appropriately integrate technology, faculty technology professional development, and the development of learning communities with common goals.  Tech IMPACT will promote the development of technology-proficient teachers by supporting learning communities and total immersion utilizing technology to improve teaching and learning.

Teacher TLC (Technology Learning Community) (1999-2000)  College of Education Award - $101,181  Federally funded Capacity Building PT3 grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.  This project assisted in the development of a plan and pilot for faculty and staff, the development of the pre-service teacher, and the creation and implementation of technology in the school during internship involving the K-12 teachers. 

Distributed Learning (1998-90)  College of Education Award .   Web-based Instruction: Asynchronous Learning This funding assisted in providing the opportunity to work on the development of a health certificate package that would be web-enhanced.

Distributed Learning (1997-98)  College of Education Award - $12,000.   Web-based Instruction: Asynchronous Learning.  This funding assisted in providing training, student assistance, and software to convert HLP 4722 in a Web-enhanced course.

Project Fit (1996) In-House Award - $7,500.  This funding was to purchase POLAR watches which monitor heart rate and provide student assistance. Research was conducted on elementary public school children.

Body and Mind (1996) Awarded by Fitness Lifestyle Design - $1,500.  This funding provided a software and site license for a fitness evaluation program.

Fitness Grant (1996).  AT&T - $1,000.  This funding provided the opportunity to conduct research on elementary public school children concerning cardiovascular fitness.
