INTERNSHIP SUPERVISION

 

  • Coordinator for Physical Education Intern Placement (from 1989-1996). Supervised and advised all interns. Responsible for advising and signing internship applications. Made all the school placements and act as a liaison between the University and the public schools.
  • Supervised 8 elementary interns and co-taught the Clinical Supervision Class at Ridgewood Park Elementary a Professional Development School, Orange County (Spring, 1995).

COUNSELING AND ADVISEMENT ACTIVITIES

 

Undergraduate Physical Education Major - Advisor

Faculty advisor for approximately 35 juniors and seniors.

 

Athlete Retention Committee

Work with athletes that are on athletic probation. Three to six athletes must meet with me weekly.

 

LEAD Scholars

Supervised a LEAD Scholar 1996-98. LEAD Scholars meet with me individually and in small groups during the course of the semester.

Physical Education Majors Club Advisor

(l988-ongoing) The club is very active professionally. Annually:Thirty to forty students attend the State Conference (FAHPERD) each year.

  • Students assist with community and school efforts such as the Florida Olympics for the Handicapped, intramural and field days, Very Special Arts, and wellness workshops.
  • Each year approximately 50 physical education students volunteer to work at The Very Special Arts Festival.
  • Students (ranges from fifteen to thirty students) attend and some have presented at conferences. One regular commitment is a session called - "Variety Pack" at the Elementary Physical Education Conference, in 1992 ,1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 held at Jekyll Island, GA.
  • An annual Awards and Graduation Banquet/Celebration is held each spring.
  • Display in the College of Education Showcase.

Other Accomplishments:

  • Three students attended the National Conference, American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in Reno, Nevada, April, 1998.
  • Five students attended the Southern District - American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, February, 1997 in New Orleans.
  • Physical Education Club President, Craig Mitchell, elected as Student Representative for State.
  • Eleven Students presented at ‘Learning Together - Fitness and Fun’ in Orlando, April 26, 1997. This conference was sponsored by The Florida Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and UCF.Education Showcase Participant
  • Approximately 15 students attended the National American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance conference in Atlanta. Spring, 1996.
  • Over 60 students attended and volunteered at the Southern District - American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Conference in Orlando in February, 1995.
  • Hosted Student Leadership Conference in February, 1994.
  • A UCF physical education student was the Student Leader of The Florida Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance, and Driver's Education, representing all university or college students in the State (l992-93).
  • In 1981, twelve students attended the National Convention in Los Angeles.
  • In l980, 25 Physical Education Majors attended the National Convention (AAHPERD) in New Orleans.

  • Distributed Learning Course, IDL 6543 (Distributed Learning or Technology-Mediated Delivery), summer, 1997. Instruction was funded by the COE for the class, HLP 4722. The course will have a chat room, a forum, assessment activities, etc.

  • SouthEast and Islands Regional Technology Consortium Meeting, Holiday Inn International Drive Resort, Orlando, FL, April 1, 1997.
  • Participated in two workshops given by Gail West for Finding Sources for Funding and Developing Winning Proposals - Spring, 1997.
  • "Apple PIE Grant" - The College of Education was one of ten teacher training institutions across the United States to be awarded a Partners in Education Grant from Apple Computer. Inc. Attended a two week professional development retreat July 30-August 12, 1996 in California.
  • Florida Center for Technology in Physical Activity - Invited by University of South Florida to attend a training session for E-mail and the World Wide Web. Attended April 21, 1996. This is part of a collaborative effort to provide information and resources via electronic mail and the WWW.
  • Movement Education - Early Childhood, Phyllis Weikart, High/Scope Foundation. Attended a workshop in Brevard County. February, 1995.

Web-based Instruction: Asynchronous Learning

This funding assisted in providing training, student assistance, and software to convert HLP 4722 in a Web-enhanced course.

 

Project Fit (1996)

In-House Award - $7,500

This funding was to purchase POLAR watches which monitor heart rate and provide student assistance. Research was conducted on elementary public school children.

 

Body and Mind (1996)

Awarded by Fitness Lifestyle Design - $1,500

This funding provided a software and site license for a fitness evaluation program.

Fitness Grant (1996)

AT&T - $1,000

This funding provided the opportunity to conduct research on elementary public school children concerning cardiovascular fitness.
