Welcome
Dear MISA Members and MIS Supporters,First, I want to than you for your past involvement with MISA, the registered student organization for students interested in MIS at UCF. As I'm sure you may have heard, the UCF Management Information Systems program is on the slate for deletion due to budget cuts. In only a couple of days, the Educations Programs Committee of the UCF Board of Trustees will meet to make their recommendations to the full Board. I want to take this opportunity to encourage you to get involved in trying to save the department.
The Management Information Systems program is a wonderful asset to
students and the community. It offers a unique perspective as a bridge
between the computer and business worlds which simply cannot be found
in other majors, such as the very technical Computer Science and IT
majors, or in any other business majors for that matter. MIS is a
valuable asset to the community which meets a growing demand; I
personally believe it would be short-sighted to discard this program,
as wells as a disservice to the Central Florida economy.
A strong student and community presence can, and hopefully will,
help to swing the vote in the department's favor. The Statistics
Department, which had also been up for deletion, has already been saved
due to the community's reaction. If you are able to do so, I would
encourage you to attend this meeting and/or prepare a short statement
for the Board.
The committee meeting will take place on Monday July 13, from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the Cape Florida Ballroom of the Student Union on the UCF Orlando Campus. Sign-ins for speakers from the floor starts at 2:15 p.m., so if you would like to speak, I would suggest arriving early. The full Board will make their decision on July 23.

At the least, I hope you will take a moment to show your support online. Alumni have started a website with a petition, a Facebook group and a Twitter feed:
