Dr. Doug Magann, Associate Professor of Educational Leadership, graduated from Roanoke College (B.A., Philosophy) and The University of Virginia (M.Ed. and Ed.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision).
Dr. Magann has more than 30 years of administrative experience in urban and suburban/rural school districts, including 21 years as superintendent in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. He has worked extensively with school boards in the design and implementation of instructional accountability systems, personnel reorganization, school based management, the negotiation of union contracts, the establishment and revision of desegregation consent decrees, the design, passage and implementation of capital bond programs, and the design and implementation of technology systems.
He has served as Chairman of the AASA Resolutions Committee, President of the Federation of Urban and Suburban School Districts, Chairman of the Large School Districts of North Carolina, and as a Director of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents. At various times during his career, Dr. Magann has been an adjunct professor at UVA, UF, and The Citadel.
His research interests include the ethics of school leadership, school finance models, and the organizational cultures of school systems.
