Professional Background
Lisa Mills worked as a broadcast journalist from 1981-1999. She also taught television production at the Disney Institute and produced documentaries for public television. She taught as an Instructor in the Radio-Television Division of the Nicholson School of Communication at UCF from 1999 - 2006, then joined the School of Film and Digital Media as an Assistant Professor of Film in Fall, 2006.
Research and Creative Work
Lisa Mills received her Ph.D. in Political Communication from the University of Florida in 2005 amd conducts experimental research in media effects. In 2007 her historical paper about political documentary on network television garnered first place in the Broadcast Educators Assoication Documentary Division Competition.
From 2001-2007 Dr. Mills produced a monthly television program for WMFE-TV in Orlando entitled UCF Metro. You may now view reruns of 55 episodes of this program on UCF's own television channel.
In 2007, Dr. Mills completed a short documentary about the Millennial Generation entitled, Who's Next. In 2008 she completed a short documentary, Sam Rivers, Jazz Master of the Moment, and a feature documentary, Dear Mr. Gore: A Somewhat Cinematic Correspondence Awkwardly Tracing a Circular Journey Constructed on a Warming Planet. In 2009 she completed another feature documentary, The Young Composers Challenge, which won "Best Long Form Documentary" from the Broadcast Educators Association. In 2010 she completed a short work with Dr. Stella Sung, The Circle Closes., which won the "Judge's Choice "and "Best Editing" awards from the Florida Motion Picture and Television Association. In Fall 2011 she completed her most recent feature documentary, Wally's Mission on Mars. Currently she is co-directing an essay film with Dr. Robert Cassanello in the UCF History Department, featuring original poetry by Dr. Stephen Caldwell Wright of Sanford.
