Dr. Judith Johnson’s role in the evolution of the Lockheed Martin/UCF Academy for mathematics and Science (LMA) and its guiding philosophy was critical to the program’s success. She came to UCF from the University of Nebraska where she received a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Science Education in 1992. The opportunity to participate in the LMA was the deciding factor in Dr. Johnson’s decision to relocate to central Florida.

EVALUATION ANALYSIS: EMERGING THEMES OF CLASSROOM PRACTICE |
The Lockheed Martin/UCF Academy for Mathematics and Science (LMA) offers a master’s degree program dedicated to systemic improvement of mathematics and science teaching and learning in the K-8 schools of central Florida. The master’s degree curriculum design is consistent with national curriculum, instruction, assessment and teacher preparation standards. Moreover, within the program, LMA is committed to the creation of a network of school-based leadership in mathematics and science education. Therefore, it is committed to the support of all participants and graduates in their efforts to enhance the quality of mathematics and science education.

A PORTRAIT IN LEADERSHIP |

Leadership in the mathematics and science education community is one of the goals for graduates of the Lockheed Martin/UCF Academy of Mathematics and Science. Many LMA graduates have made us proud of their efforts and achievements in the area of leadership. Watch for this feature as we highlight the career achievements of our graduates.
Anjani Mohabir is a 1996 graduate of LMA. She is a three-time winner at UCF. She received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from UCF. Of course, the received her master’s from the LMA program, and she completed the Education Specialist’s degree at UCF, too. Presently. Mrs. Mohabir is seeking a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Florida.

LOCKHEED MARTIN SCHOLAR RECEIVES ALBERT EINSTEIN FELLOWSHIP |
Marilyn (“Mimi”) McClure has been awarded a prestigious Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship. She is serving her Fellowship at the national Science foundation, Division of Graduate Education, in Arlington, Virginia. The eleven-month fellowship runs through July 2004.
