The author of such famous works as Black Skin, White Masks and The Wretched of the Earth, Franz Fanon was born in 1925 in Martinique. He fought for the French in their war with Algeria only to find himself sympathetic to the Algerian resistance. After World War II, he studied psychiatry and medicine in France. His writing’s focus is on the negative effects of colonialism on people groups. Fanon is a major figure of Negritude and died in 1961.
