Description:
This is a course in The History of Mathematics. The book is An Introduction to the History of Mathematics, sixth edition, by Howard Eves. The class meets two times per week. The Syllabus Part I gives you the chapters in the book, which are covered. Student presentations will be 20%, Humanizing Mathematics Report 20% and tests will be 60 % of the final grade.* Excessive absences will result in a lower final grade. The grading scale is as follows: 0 to 59 - F, 60 to 69 - D, 70 to 79 - C, 80 to 89 - B, and 90 - 100 - A.

Note: Plus and minus grades will not be given in this course

Text: An Introduction to the History of Mathematics, sixth edition, by Howard Eves
Prerequisites: Calculus with Analytic Geometry II
Course Description: The course is a chronological study of the evolution of mathematical thought from primitive counting through modern ideas. The course is recommended for prospective teachers of mathematics.
Testing: There will be 4 tests and a final exam. Each test will be of equal value. In addition,individual and/or group assignments will be given.

Make-up tests will only be given in cases of DOCUMENTED absences due to religious holidays, family emergencies, illness, or official University functions. These make-ups will be given on December 8 from 1:00 to 4:00.
