2001 Region 5 Competition

On November 15-18, Delta Zeta Omega ( ΔΖΩ) sent 13 members to represent UCF and our chapter in the Region 5 Competition.  This competition consisted of Testing in 5 criminal Justice Areas (Criminal Law, Corrections, Juvenile Justice, Police Administration and ΛΑΕ History).  The Competition also included a Crime Scene Investigation, Physical Agility Testing and Firearms Competition (we did not compete in firearms).  The results of the Competition were quite impressive.   ΔΖΩ garnered 9 awards total including 3 First, 4 Second and 2 Third place awards. Props to Janee, Susie, and Sarah (our new TV stars) on a second place finish in the Crime Scene Investigation.  See them in action here.  Testing awards went to Thomas Genovese and James Roberts who captured 2 First Place ribbons and a 3rd Place in Criminal Law (2 Awards) and Police Administration.  Next year maybe we will study before we go.  Finally in the Physical Agility testing  ΔΖΩ captured a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbon.  Caroline Campbell won 1st place in her division, James Roberts won 2nd Place in his division, and Frank Farina won 3rd in his division with only 3 seconds between 1st and 3rd in the men's under 25.  All in all,  ΔΖΩ was very active at the Conference with 11 members participating in ride-a-longs with the Greenville Co. Sheriff's Office.  Emily seemed to be drawn to all the action as she got to see 2 pursuits first-hand during her tour-of-duty.  ΛΑΕ Business that was addressed during the conference included the election of a Regional President, announcement of the ΛΑΕ National Convention in Cheyenne, Wyoming in March, the selection of Broward Community College for the Regional Meeting in 2002, and the tentative announcement of the 2003 Nationals in ORLANDO!!! with UCF being the host University.  Final note, Congrats to Florida Atlantic University for winning the Spirit Award for the regional conference ... That about wraps up the Regional Update, for those of you who missed it this year, you missed a good one, hopefully we can all make it next year in Ft. Lauderdale.
