Wendy Goes In For Counseling August, 2001 - Orlando, FL Joining the ranks of many others who purportedly study counseling because they're "really messed up," Wendy Thompson recently enrolled in a Master's program in Counseling Psychology offered by the Orlando campus of Troy State University. Joining Wendy were three coworkers from her old school (see related story: Guidance). Not being one for projects requiring long term patience, Wendy has found a program that will be complete in one year using a combination of accelerated semesters and short (2 weekend only) classes. Wendy says that, "Except for a few 'needy' people in the classes, it's been a great experience." Wendy and her peer group have some frustrations with some of the students who obviously enrolled in order to reinforce the stereotype about people going into counseling because they need counseling. Wendy's track focuses on school (guidance) counseling, and she isn't planning to seek licensure at this time.
