Thompsons Released From Prison July, 2000 - San Francisco, CA With the echoes of slamming cell doors still ringing in their ears, Kelvin and Wendy Thompson turned back to the outside world with hope. The weather had been quite chilly in San Francisco's Alcatraz National Park during the Thompson's visit to the former penitentiary. Although the Orlando residents enjoyed their week-long break from Florida's summer heat, they were hoping that the weather would warm up a bit for the remainder of their bay area vacation. Some of their favorite trip highlights included a tour of northern California wine country, dinner at "Bubba Gump's" (a theme restaurant based on the movie Forrest Gump), cable car rides, and the enchanting aroma of urine in the streets.
