The music industry is constantly expanding, ne w groups come out every day trying to give the world something new. The only problem is, most of what comes out is the same stuff over and over again. Why does every new group sound the same?” If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been in a pretty bad rut as far as a new sound goes. It seems to me that good stuff comes along every so often, like a leap year. In the 70s, it was disco. In the 80s, it was hair bands, in the 90s, it was grunge music and hip-hop and moving on into the new millennium, the only new sound we’ve had is different variations of house music and techno. That’s getting played out too. There is a solution though. If you really want to hear a crazy, never heard before genre of music, go to mp3.com and look up Shark and Creature.

Shark and Creature is a two man band, including UCF student Josh Rojyfe. Their style is very new, almost experimental. It would be difficult to put it into context with a genre you could relate to.They use synthesizers to create way-out galaxy funk, mixed in with some extremely aggressive drumbeats, on their first single, which is titled, “Vegan Vampires.” This song starts off in a fun style. They break down what a Vegan Vampire is and why they aren’t as scary as the regular vampires. Think this sounds stupid, then don’t listen. Go download the latest remix Bombs over Baghdad and burn it on your disc with Limp Bizkit and Lil’ Bow Wow. Unfortunately, you’re just going to listen to the same old bulls**t (Beastie Boys). On the other hand, if you’re like me, you get a special kick from putting on some new tunes while driving, or at a party and your friends are feeling it. Hey, this kinda stuff might actually make you a cool guy (Warning: Shark and Creature do not endorse the fact that their music will make you cool).

So, if you’re a mindless drone and you don’t mind listening to the same stuff the labels insist we hear, then forget about it, otherwise, I highly recommend some new, crazy fun music in Shark and Creature.
