In this, her first exhibition, Patricia Childers presents Watermelon Perch, a painting that gave her the opportunity to explore color to the fullest. Childers began painting in 1991. She prefers the use of watercolors to pastels and acrylics because watercolors endow her works with a loose and spontaneous quality. Each of her paintings starts as a challenge that, later in the process, evolves into an extremely pleasing activity. She is always drawn toward organic forms; fruits and animals, as well as winter scenes, are her favorite choices. She looks for images that allow her to indulge herself by using a rich variety of colors.
In painting, Childers finds the opportunity to immerse herself in a space and time that belongs only to her, a space where she can relax and lose herself by exploring her creativity. She explains, "I wish to improve my skills and let my work flow free of any restraints." She is continually taking watercolor classes and hopes to have her work enjoyed for its color and creativity.
