A studio art major in college, Donne Bitner has always loved the creative process of art. Although her art making was suspended for many years in favor of raising a family, Bitner’s love of art and painting resurfaced 10 years ago when she was able to devote herself to it completely. Bitner is quick to note, however, that even with four children, she never wholly abandoned art, always finding time to do something artistic. She finds this creative outlet essential since it allows her to express her own special, individual outlook on life.

Red Dog developed out of Bitner’s great love and appreciation for dogs. Bitner is fascinated by these animals, believing that they display many human emotions. The vibrant color, texture and energy of Red Dog makes it, according to Bitner, "a very successful painting. It is important for artists to please themselves first, and this is a work that I can appreciate." Bitner’s affection for dogs makes them a subject to which she repeatedly returns.
