Born and raised in Central Florida, Gwen Walters has a great appreciation for the states native fauna. In reference to Florida Hammock, Walters says, "This is a wonderful and restful Florida scene." Walters incorporates her love of native Florida trees, such as palms and pines, into many of her artistic compositions.
Walters began painting 15 years ago, after her retirement. Although she was originally reluctant to pursue art, Walters sister encouraged her to take painting classes. The fact that this sister was a very talented artist herself greatly influenced Walters decision to become a painter. What began as a hobby, of course, has become a very important and fulfilling part of Walters life. She spends many of her days painting in her local studio. "I hate to think about not painting," Walters states. "Painting occupies much of my time and, as long as I have good health, a great portion of it will be spent at art and painting."
