Further on the theme of deception, critical theory also addresses mass culture, and particularly the media. Some themes we have already seen come up again - technophilia, modernism. The problem here is that images are used to create a reality that doesn't exist. It covers over the real social problems, even when it purports to report them.
We will be doing a fair amount on this during the term, so I won't say much about it here.
